After a massive snowstorm that dumped 5 feet of powder in the Wasatch on Christmas week of 2015, hordes of backcountry skiers tracked everything out that was low angle and safe. (High avalanche danger kept the smart ones off open bowls.) A week later, without any new snow, untracked slopes in the Wasatch became scarce. Then high winds destroyed the rest. But good turns can still be found in protected areas like north-facing evergreen glades. Today, we found the goods on Millvue Peak in Lambs Canyon.
Millvue Peak is a bit of a hidden treasure. The drive from Salt Lake City or Park City is short, the approach from the trailhead is easy, and the skiing is… well… good for the most part if you don’t mind a bit of bushwhacking. But when you’re desperate for powder turns when none can be found, you have to get creative.
