Backcountry Magazine is traveling around to North American resorts as part of their Backcountry BASECAMP 2016 Tour, and Solitude Mountain Resort is where the fun begins. From Saturday, January 16 through Monday, January 18, the editors of Backcountry Magazine, along with local avalanche forecasters, ski guides, AIARE instructors, and gear experts will be hanging out for this multi-day, hands-on mountain experience.
“For 20 years, Backcountry Magazine has been committed to educating its readers on how to safely navigate in untracked terrain,” said Adam Howard, Editorial Director of Backcountry Magazine. “Together with our partners, we are bringing that knowledge to resorts around North America. This is the fourth-annual Backcountry BASECAMP tour and we are excited to launch 2016 at Solitude Mountain Resort.”
If you attend Backcountry BASECAMP, you’ll get to take part in a variety of activities, including:
- Demonstrations and classes with the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE)
- Complimentary backcountry tours with guides from Utah Mountain Adventures
- In-depth looks at the latest trends in avalanche and safety education and gear
- First look at the newest backcountry skis, skins, splitboards, beacons, shovels, probes and airbag packs.
- A chance to try out the latest technical outerwear from Scott Sports and GORE-TEX
In addition, Backcountry BASECAMP will be raising money for local avalanche centers, mountain rescue organizations, and ski patrol. Proceeds from the Solitude event will benefit Wasatch Backcountry Rescue.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring our tour to Solitude this year,” says Tyler Cohen, Editor in Chief of Backcountry Magazine. “We’ve had stops in Jackson Hole, Wyo. and Crested Butte, Colo. before, but this is the first time we’ve expanded to Utah—we think the event will really resonate there.”
If there’s a day you want to attend, then Saturday is the one, because at 5 p.m., BASECAMP will host a huge party and raffle at the Last Chance Lodge with proceeds benefitting Wasatch Backcountry Rescue. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from the Thirsty Squirrel, both Canyon Fever locations or Ski Patrol. Please note that only 1,000 tickets will be sold.
