Voilé always has new skis to show off at Outdoor Retailer, and 2016 is no exception. You can bet whatever they churn out from their factory here in Salt Lake will win the company some more Editor’s Choice awards from ski magazines. My money is on the Voilé SuperCharger and the skimo/touring hybrid, the Objective.
SUPERCHARGER
The Voilé SuperCharger looks to be the big flagship in the ski line for the 2016/17 season. They are completely phasing out the original Charger (my favorite ski of all time) and are replacing it with this updated version. While the name might make you think the SuperCharger is bigger, stiffer and more aggressive than its predecessor, that’s not the case. They say it’s closer in design to the popular V8. It has a slimmer waist, wider tail, and a more subdued “Hybrid Rocker.”
The result should be a ski that can carve in hard pack, weave through tight trees, slay it in the moguls, and, yes, float like a champ in powder. Sounds like the end-all, be-all one-ski quiver, doesn’t it? I took the SuperCharger on a couple mixed-condition runs at Solitude during the All Mountain Demo, and came away impressed at the ski’s hardpack agility. I’l love to see what they can do in the backcountry.
The SuperCharger will be available in both men’s and women’s versions and features:
- Lightweight Aspen Wood Core
- Carbon Fiberglass Layer
- Triaxial Fiberglass Layer
- Polyamide Topsheet
- 2mm, Full-Perimeter Steel Edges
- Voilé Hybrid Rocker
- Dimensions – 171: 104mm, 178: 106mm, 185: 108mm
OBJECTIVE & OBJECTIVE BC
Here’s an interesting ski… the Objective is unlike anything I’ve seen before. Inspired by skimo racing, this ski is meant for fast ascents and long-distance tours. Voilé says they fall between their Wasatch Speed Project (WSP) skis and the Vectors. A true hybrid that’s a category of its own. They are very light, have a notch in the tip for skins, and the BC model has fish scales on the bottoms known as the Voilé Traction Base. At just 84mm underfoot in the 178, you won’t be arching GS turns in powder, but you will lead the pack on the downhill in a rando race, or even have fun cruising icy groomers at the resort.
The Objective and Objective BC features:
- Lightweight Paulownia Wood Core
- 2 Carbon Fiberglass Layers
- Polyamide Topsheet
- 1.8mm Steel Side Edges
- Notched Tip
- Rockered Tip
- Dimensions – 164: 80mm, 171: 82mm, 178: 84mm
Look for these new skis from Voile for the 2016/17 ski season.
