Ever dream of owning your own ski company? Now is your chance. Salt Lake City’s own Bluehouse Skis has closed up shop, but instead of selling the business, they want to give it away, for free, to anyone who’s willing to pick up the torch and bring Bluehouse into the future.
According to Bluehouse founders, this giveaway includes everything, including:
- Heated adjustable ski press and molds/cassettes for 6 ski models in 2-4 sizes per model
- Homemade 3 axis CNC router
- Flatbed sublimation graphics press
- A few thousand dollars worth of raw materials to create ski bases, tip-fill, edges and topsheets
- Dozens of leftover, finished skis
- Demo bindings
- Vertical band saw
- Hand tools
The operation is no longer turnkey, so not all equipment needed to make skis is available, but what is there is a good start. In addition to the machines and tools, you’ll inherit the actual brand, including the company name, logo, website, Facebook page with over 13k followers, and more. Plus, they promise to be there and work with you to get you started.
Interested? Simply make a video explaining why you want to take over Bluehouse Skis and why you think you’d be successful running it. Submit videos to adam@bluehouseskis.com
The only catch is that you have to give a new pair of skis per year to the 3 original Bluehouse founders as long as you operate the company, and you’d have to give two skis away to some ski design contest winners.
Anyone can submit a video, even if you already own a ski company. However, they hope that Bluehouse will stay home in Utah.
The video deadline is March 15th, 2016.
I’ve owned a pair of Bluehouse Tight Shoots, and found the skis to be solid powder hogs. Other friends have also been fans of Bluehouse, as they sold quality skis direct-to-consumer at less cost than the big ski companies. It’s sad that they are hanging up the ski press and moving on, but hopefully whoever wins will carry on that tradition.
To keep up with this, check out the happening on the Bluehouse Skis Facebook Page.
