The Narrows in Zion National Park is perhaps the most scenic and dramatic canyon in all of Utah, and backpacking is the best way to see it. I featured this segment on KSL Outdoors, and it shows off the beauty of the canyon, as well as tips on how to make the hike, and the gear you’ll need for a successful adventure.
To backpack the Zion Narrows, you have to plan ahead. Permits are required and should be made three months in advance. Otherwise, you may be able to score a permit 7-2 days before your trip during a last-minute drawing. If you miss out on those, a limited number of walk-in permits may be available. For more info, head over to the Zion National Park website.
To overnight in the Narrows, you’ll need specialized gear like trekking poles, water shoes and dry bags. You can read my article about that here.
