Winter is coming… it’s trendy thing to hashtag thanks to Game of Thrones, but this time of year, it’s a pretty damn accurate statement. Alternatively, you can say, “here comes winter,” and that’s exactly what Wasatch Mountain Arts is saying when they bring their latest ski film-festival to Park City in November.
Here Comes Winter is a celebration of snow that’s about to fall and the skiing we are about to enjoy. On November 3rd, at the Park City Library, there will be food, drinks, and screenings of new ski films. The party starts at 5 p.m. and the films begin at 7.
On the docket is Here and Now, a feature film from local ski company, 4FRNT Skis. This is their 6th team movie and the theme centers on how we live in a world where “nearly everyone’s heads are buried in a mobile device and friendships and interactions between humans are dwindling. People would rather live through the Internet than spend actual quality time outside with real people.” Here and Now rises above such anti-social nonsense in a ski movie that showcases the skiing of Eric Hjorleifson, David Wise, Wiley Miller, Thayne Rich and Cam Riley with friends as they escape modern life in the mountains.
The second film screening is Peregrine by Rob Aseltine & Grit Visual. This movie is about two friends who escape to the north in a small plane to chase winter and deep powder. Athletes include Rob Aseltine and Giray Dadali.
So head up to Park City, hang out with like-minded locals, and take in a ski movie or two. Because it’s a scientific fact that ski movies are the best way to get ready for ski season.
