Backcountry skiers looking to promote car pooling in the Cottonwood Canyons should sign up for the 2nd annual Wasatch Backcountry Alliance free shuttle day. Relax in a 12-person van as you ride up the canyon, and don’t worry about finding parking in our increasingly crowded trailheads. The WBA free shuttle day services Big Cottonwood Canyon this year and is happening on Saturday, March 4th.
According to the Wasatch Backcountry Alliance, free-shuttle day is meant to demonstrate that the backcountry community in the Wasatch is serious about finding traffic solutions to unclog our canyons and clear our air. They say it’s also a chance to raise awareness (and money) in support of Bonanza Flats. During the shuttle rides, they will be accepting donations to cover the cost of the shuttles, and any extras will go towards their goal of raising money to help protect this vital piece of land. If you’re feeling generous, you can donate to save Bonanza Flats here: http://wasatchbackcountryalliance.org/news/save-bonanza-flats/
Free shuttle day starts at 7:00 a.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. Shuttles will be running every half hour from the Smiths parking lot on Bengal Boulevard and 3500 E. There will be a tent set up in the lot where shuttles will be picking up/dropping off.
The rad thing about this shuttle service is that they will drop you off anywhere you want in Big Cottonwood Canyon, whether that means Butler Fork, Mill D, Beartrap Fork, Solitude, Brighton, and more – just tell the driver where you want to get off. They will also pick you up there at the end of the day.
To help support the idea of a more permanent shuttle solution for our overcrowded canyons, you can sign up here.
