Last fall, the UtahOutside.com team raced in 25 Hours in Frog Hollow – the longest “24 hours race in the world.” But did you know there’s a shorter version in the spring? 6 Hours in Frog Hollow in like a mini-endurance race and organizers say it’s a great introduction to racing, or a fun way to train for the big autumn event.
The 8th Annual 6 Hours in Frog Hollow takes place on Saturday, April 15th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is happening now, but spots fill up every year, so hurry and sign up soon. The race venue is the same as 25 Hours in Frog Hollow on the Jem Trail complex just outside Hurricane, Utah.
One of the best things about 6 Hours in Frog Hollow is that the course is perfect for kids. There isn’t much technical terrain on the course (it’s mostly smooth singletrack and double track) and every year race organizers announce a new, fun theme. This year’s theme is “Wizards and Witches.”
We highly encourage anyone participating in the race to camp at the Frog Hollow venue. One of the most fun aspects of racing here is the hanging out, chilling with friend around the campfire, and enjoying the communal spirit of fellow mountain bikers all jazzed to be riding in the desert. Plus, the camping area is on a bluff overlooking the course, so you have a great view to cheers on your teammates. Plus the view of Zion National Park in the distance ain’t bad either.
