April is one of the best months to ski at Alta. Sure the winter powder is less likely to fall, but along with the spring corn snow, there are several Alta in April events you can attend to say goodbye to ski season.
Closing day at Alta is officially on April 16th, so there’s a lot packed into the beginning of the month. April 7th to the 16th is officially the Alta in April celebration. First up is the annual Alta Gala. This year’s party is Latin-themed and takes place at La Caille Restaurant near the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. Funds raised from the event go to help three non-profit organizations, including Alta Community Enrichment, Friends of Alta, and the Alta Historical Society. The Gala is on Friday, April 7th from 7-11:30 p.m. More info here.
Then on Saturday, April 8th, head up to the resort for Alta in April Demo Day. You can try out next year’s skis from dozens of companies, plus a chance to purchase apparel and other gear. There will be music and more. The demo tents will be set up in front of the Goldminers Daughter at the Wildcat base. So if you’re in the market for a new pair of sticks, there’s no better opportunity to try dozens of skis out. Plus, it’s free.
Saturday, April 15 is Alta Earth Day. Events include eco-friendly vendors, naturalist tours, birding in alta, après Earth Day & a film.
Then the following Sunday, bring the kids for the Alta Community Enrichment Easter Egg Hunt. The hunt takes place at Alta Java/Albion Grill at the Albion Base. Start time is 11:00am and kids can search for eggs in different age categories. Plus, it won’t be an Easter egg hunt without a visit from the Easter Bunny.
Of course skiing is still the main event, and the final days of the season at Alta are among the most fun. Dress up in costume, tailgate in the parking lot, and enjoy the warm temperatures and sunshine. Plus, don’t forget about the legendary Frank and High Boy parties that happen on the closing weekends. Bring your camera and your inner child as both parties are a spectacle.
