I have a problem with most technical outdoor shirts. They are made from materials that feel a bit… plastic against the skin. Polyester is the main culprit, but nylon also joins in. Now I understand the function of wearing these fabrics for moisture control while sweating, or if the shirt gets wet and needs to dry quickly,. Hell, it can even be a matter of life and death in the outdoors. But for casual wear, that plastic feeling can be kind of gross. That is unless I’m wearing the new Styx Shirt from Kuhl.
The Styx Shirt features:
- 71% Nylon, 29% Polyester Fabric
- Quick dry
- Lightweight, wicking summer fabric
- Mechanical stretch for comfort and better range of motion
- 2 button-down chest pockets
- UPF 30+
- Inside security pocket
What I like most about the Styx is how nice the fabric feels against my body, despite the nylon.polyester blend. Somehow, Kuhl has made the material feel soft… almost cotton-like. Ever since I got his shirt, I’ve wanted to wear it every day that temperatures have risen up to the short-sleeve level.
From mountain biking, going out to dinner, walking the dog, office time, and hiking, the Kuhl Styx shirt has performed great.
Most recently, I took it to a family trip at Mesa Verde in Colorado, where temperatures were in the 70s and 80s. While hiking through Ancestral Puebloan ruins with my two-year-old riding on my back, the shirt wicked moisture away, even under the pack. The fabric is light and cool and my ginger skin appreciates the fact that it has UPF 30+ protection. Plus, while climbing up wooden ladders to reach the ruins, the mechanical stretch seriously came in handy.
The Good: Technical fabrics actually feel nice against the skin, blocks sun rays, mechanical stretch, light and cool.
The Bad: I have zero complaints about this shirt. I downright love it.
Final Word: The Kuhl Styx Shirt may be the ultimate summer outdoor shirt.
