The storm we’ve all been waiting for finally arrived in the Wasatch. And while it was a bit of a sleeper storm, and didn’t have the water content to create much base, the snow that did fall gave skiers and snowboarders an awesome weekend. Utah resorts report up to 21 inches over the two-day storm. The strangest part is that some parts of the Salt Lake Valley actually received more snow than the mountains.
Solitude Mountain Resort
Over at Solitude, 17 inches fell, which should go a long way toward even more terrain opening, especially in Honeycomb Canyon. Currently all lifts are operating with 61 of 77 runs open. It’s finally starting to feel like normal at Solitude and the skiing is great.
Alta Ski Area
Alta got 23 inches total from the storm, and they have the photos to prove it. Those who skied there on Sunday described it as a “good old-fashioned over-the-shoulder, in-the-face blower pow day.”
Future Forecast
According to Evan Thayer at opensnow.com, there may be more snow on the way. Weather will warm early in the week with a chance of light showers. But Thursday night into Friday a moderate storm is taking shape. Let’s hope it’s deep!
