A blanket is just a blanket, right? Well not if you’re Klymit. The company has a history of improving upon old outdoor gear standards, and the most utilitarian of all, the blanket, is no exception. The Klymit Versa takes blankets to the next level. It’s not only warm and cozy, but it has outdoor-friendly features that elevate it to a different realm.
So what sets this blanket apart from all others? I’ll get into that, but first the details:

Around the Campfire
I took the Klymit Versa Blanket on a camping trip to Kodachrome Basin State Park here in Utah. My idea was to test it while sitting around the campfire to stave off the evening chill. But wouldn’t you know it, the wife stole it from my clutches and would not give it back. And her report back to me is that this is basically the best outdoor blanket she’s ever used.
The Versa Blanket is well named because this thing is versatile. In the two top corners there are pockets for your hands. Not only do these sleeves keep your hands warm, but they also keep the blanket in place when you wrap yourself inside. On the bottom of the blanket is a foot box. Same idea – if your feet get cold, slips those toes inside the big pocket for toasty warmth.
That foot box has another use as well. Stuff the blanket inside and you’ve got yourself a pillow.
The Versa Sleep System
After the “wife-approved” test, I finally was able to use it myself on a trip to Lake Powell. The nights were warm (overnight lows in the 60s) so I didn’t use my sleeping bag. Instead I created a camping bed. I took my Klymit V Ultralite SL, wrapped it in the Klymit V Sheet, and put the bottom end inside the Versa’s foot box. Underneath the blanket’s Klymalite™ synthetic loft insulation, I stayed warm all night and the foot box prevented the blanket from sliding off the pad.
I’d say the Klymit Versa Blanket is more than just something to have around in case you get chilly. It can be part of your summer camping sleep system. It also packs down really small so you can use it for summer backpacking trips without overloading your pack.
And at just $79.95, the Versa Blanket costs a lot less than most sleeping bags.
I am so impressed with the Klymit Versa Blanket that I think it will be a part of my summer outdoor kit for years to come. And it will also have a home on my couch in the winter months for snuggling up to watch Netflix.
