Hi Petra,

Sorry for the confusion, but Ahnu calls these shoes the Elkridge hiking boot... their words, not mine. However the boots reviewed are the low version. If you're looking for a "boot" check out the mid-ankle Elkridge version... it's exactly the same as the low but with a higher ankle, so my review should give you a good idea of the comfort and performance of the boot either way.

Thanks for reading and let me know if you have any more questions.

I came here expecting a review of the Elkridge hiking boot, and see several mentions of "hiking boot," yet all the pictures are of the Elkridge hiking shoe and it seems that's what the review is really about. When there is both a boot and a shoe available in the Elkridge, it would be good to be clear about the terminology!

"I have no way to actually verify this"

Do an internet search on the Marker Duke/Barron for images. You will see what I saw, no difference in the pivot point (zilch, nada, zero, etc.). At least, that's my conclusion from the demo unit at the show.

I digress ... One of my complaints, and many AT/Randonee skiers, is that one needs to remove their boot from the binding to switch into or out-of the touring mode. Albeit, no other binging delivery the beef like the Duke.

Hey canwilf.

I wrote this based on what I was told by a Marker rep at their Outdoor Retailer booth. I have no way to actually verify this since I didn't have an older model Duke with me to compare side-by-side, so I'm taking his word for it. But it's definitely something worth looking into since the pivot location on my older Barons is one of my main complaints about the Marker bindings.

Living in the PNW this is a welcome innovation. On the shoulder season you gotta stick with synthetic if you want to stay warm. It'll be nice to finally throw a jacket in that will hold up a little better to the squall.

"They’ve also moved the pivot point back so that it’s more under the ball of the foot for a natural stride"

From the pictures above, the pivot is exactly where it was before on my 2009 Duke model.
