Snow, wind, and low visibility plagued world-class skiers and spectators alike at the final stop of the Subaru Freeride Series at Snowbird. But despite the conditions, skiers stepped up and shredded the North Baldy area at the event’s final stop and championship round, where Ian Borgeson and Sasha Dingle were awarded as champions. If...

The Mountain Collective, a collection of ski resorts around the western U.S. and Canada, has added several new resorts to the mix including Whistler/Blackcomb, Mammoth Mountain and Utah’s own Snowbird. December 5, 2012
By
Ski patrol needs diversions when high pressure systems rule, like training on ski lift rescue.

The current storm not withstanding, we have been in the doldrums. Lack of snowfall and prolonged high pressure has left us with plenty of time on our hands. Keeping busy skiing the same runs over and over, most of us had tried every line variation possible. Acres of terrain remained closed and it becomes...

Analyzing a pit profile before opening a slope to skiers.

There is something special about the opening day at your home mountain. “How was your summer?” is often the question of the day and it is reminiscent of the first day of school. Catching up with your pals and showing off your latest threads is exciting. Standing in the lift line, the anticipation is...
