The scientists hidden away in the GU labs have been hard at work concocting new creations and flavors to be consumed by the sweating, recreating masses. Unique tastes in GU Chomps, GU Roctane and their latest bit o’ mixology, the GU Brew, were on display at the Outdoor Retailer 2011 Winter Market where samples were tasted.
First up is a brand new flavor of GU Roctane for 2011, Cherry Lime. GU Roctane is an energy gel that has twice the amount of caffeine compared the others. The new Cherry Lime tastes pretty good, and although I’m not really a fan of the consistency of energy gels, I thought the Cherry Lime was at least edible. Fans of Cherry Limeades will be happy here.
Next up is the latest iteration of GU Chomps, Peach Tea flavor. The gummy-style energy boost is more my style (probably because it’s like eating candy as opposed to snot) and the new Peach Tea taste is, well, tasty! It’s new for 2011, but both the Peach Tea Chomps and Cherry Lime Roctane are now available.
The GU Energy Labs brought their super secret new GU Brew to the convention floor. The product is so new that they don’t even have packaging yet, and they came in these lab-coat white tubes. Inside are GU Brew electrolyte tablets. They’re naturally sweetened and flavored, and come in orange, lemon lime and peach tea. Drop one in 16 ounces of water, mix, and replenish yourself. GU Brew will come out March 1, 2011.
Finally, GU was using us Outdoor Retailer attendees as lab rats, as they tested out some possible new flavors for future GU packets. These ketchup and mustard bottles were filled with different versions of chocolate GU, including banana chocolate, raspberry chocolate, orange chocolate and just straight-up chocolate chocolate. I tried them all and regular chocolate was my fav, followed by raspberry chocolate. My least favorite? Banana. Blech.
Keep your eyes peeled as you shop your local gear store for these new flavors from GU. For more, visit www. guenergy.com
