Osprey has done it again – the company that pretty much revolutionizes backpack design on an annual basis turned heads at their Outdoor Retailer booth with a pack that defies gravity.
Atmos & Aura AG Packs
The Atmos and Aura packs are not new to the Osprey lineup, but what they did to those packs for their 4th generation, well, you need to see it to understand. Simply put, the packs have a 3D contoured suspension that they dub “Anti-Gravity.” According to Osprey, it’s a light, body-contouring suspension “that allows the user to move as if they don’t have a pack on – true anti-gravity realized.”
Key features include:
- Anti-Gravity Suspension with LightWire tensioned full peripheral frame, which comfortably transfers pack load and provides low-profile air space.
- Anti-Gravity Backpanel with seamless suspended 3D mesh that runs from the shoulder blade to the hipbelt, perfectly dispersing and balancing the load.
- Anti-Gravity Suspended Harness which uses unique stiffened load lifters to comfortably suspend the harness wrap over the back of the shoulders and maintain balanced load transfer across all of the pack’s contact points.
- Anti-Gravity/Fit-on-the Fly Hipbelt featuring suspended mesh hip wrap for load transfer and comfort and gender-specific fit.
- Other thoughtful upgrades for 2015 include the addition of Osprey’s innovative FlapJacket closure system for weather-protected lidless use, plus an internal top compression strap to keep the pack load stable when the top lid is removed.
The men’s Atmos AG will be available in different colors like Cinnabar Red, Absinthe Green and Graphite Grey, and will come in 65L and 50L sizes. MSRP will be $260 and $230 respectively.
The women’s Aura AG will come in Silver Streak, Rainforest Green colors, and will also be available in 60L and 50L sizes.
Expect to see this Anti Gravity technology on store shelves Spring 2015.
Have they fixed any of the issues that plagued the previous model? Hip-belt pockets inaccessible, water bottle pockets too tight to be useful on the go, and front pocket(s) being too tight to be useful when fully packed?
Good question, John. Honestly, I’m not familiar with the previous model so I can’t make that comparison.
