2016 has seen the slowest start to winter in recorded history with 242 consecutive days above freezing in Salt Lake City. Clearly, ski resorts are going to feel the hurt unless our weather does a 180. So to help out and appeal to the snow gods, Alta is hosting a “celebration of snow” on Saturday, November 19th. It’s the All About That Base Tailgate Party.
This shindig will be full of classic Alta shenanigans with a Flash-mob style snow dance, fire barrel (for the traditional ski sacrifice), snowman-building contest, tailgate games (think corn hole) and anything else you tend to bring with you while hanging out in Alta’s parking lot during the season. In addition, Goldminers Daughter will be open slinging pizzas and playing ski movies all day.
You’ll even have a chance to win lift tickets if you enter the snowman contest. Create your best snowman, take a picture of it, and tag @altaskiarea and use the hashtag #altasnowman.
The party starts at 1 p.m. with the snowdance kicking off at 2. The ski sacrifice happens at 3.
Sure, there’s not enough snow to ski on yet, but you might as well pick up your season pass while there as the ticket office is open until 4:30. Afterwards, swing by the Welcome to Winter Party at Our Lady of the Snows at 6:30, hosted by Alta Community Enrichment where you can check out the Discrete Clothing & Alta Peruvian 2016 Video challenge winners. Admission is free.
And if that’s not enough reason to get you up Little Cottonwood Canyon on a Saturday, the Alta Ski Shop will also have a tent up with sale items and ski tuning.

Pray for snow!
