It’s always awesome to hear about a local company kicking ass and taking names. Utah’s Easton Mountain Products is making waves and winning awards with their new Kilo ultralight tent. We featured the Kilo last year at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, and since that time, the Kilo has earned top honors from the outdoor industry.
Most recently, Easton Mountain Products was the winner at the 2011 Utah Innovation Awards in the outdoor and consumer products category. The awards ceremony took place in Salt Lake City and was judged by a committee of 70 experts from Utah’s private industry, government and academic communities.
So what makes the Kilo tent deserve all this recognition? Basically because it’s so damn light. Easton kept busy in their secret, underground lair developing new technology that totally re-wrote the book on tent poles. Easton completely removed the shock cord and replaced it with patent-pending AirLock™ technology that connects pole sections. The result is a much lighter tent. How light? Try 2.2 pounds for a two-person tent with carbon poles.
Of course, the people at Easton Mountain Products couldn’t be happier.
“Not only is it a great honor for our company to be honored alongside such great innovators in our state, but we’re pleased that the Kilo tent is getting such recognition,” says Easton Mountain Products Marketing Manager Rich Packer. “We put a lot of work into developing a technology that greatly improves the backpacking experience, and it’s good to see it getting props from leaders in our state.”
In addition to the Kilo tent, Easton Mountain Products has gained notoriety in the outdoor industry from the launch of its Artica snowshoe line. Winning multiple awards including Outside Magazine’s 2009 Gear of the Year, Easton Mountain Products continues to make a name for itself as a true innovator in the outdoor industry.
