Brooks-Range Mountaineering is always innovating and inventing new things as far as outdoor gear is concerned, and at the 2011 Outdoor Retailer Summer Market, they didn’t disappoint. Keeping true to their reputation, they showed off some cool new stuff, including a new line of tents and a new sleeping bag. First, the tents:
The Brooks Range Invasion tent is a free-standing, 4-season, 2-person tunnel tent made for the most hardcore mountaineers and backpackers. It’s a single wall design with an exo-skeleton pole system for increased strength and faster setup. Basically, the poles are attached by a hinge so you don’t have to fumble with them. Just pull them out and they swing into place. The Invasion weighs only 3 pounds, 7 ounces – amazing for a 4 season tent.
Brooks Range will also have three other tents coming out in their new line, including the Propel and Foray Tent. The Foray Tent (pictured above) is described by the copmpany as a, “super lightweight champion.” It’s a 2-person, 3-season tent that only weighs in at 2 lb. 10 oz. The Foray is a freestanding double wall tent that also features a removable fly for breezy ventilation.
The Propel is based on their popular Rocket Tent. It differs, however, by using a lightweight silicone material. It’s a single wall construction and also uses the spine poles system for ease of setup.
Also on the camping front is a new, zero-degree version of the Alpini sleeping bag. It’s a winter-weight mummy style that’s light weight and super warm. It’s stitched with offset baffles for maximum insulation capability, is filled with 850-goose down, and is covered in a Pertex Quantam Fabric for full loft effect. Also very cool is the halo draft tube… a draft tube for the top of your head in addition to the standard tube that goes around the neck.
In addition to the new camping gear, Brooks Range will have a line of jackets, including hardshell, softshell and insulated mid-layers. Visit www.brooks-range.com for their current offerings.
