It may not be in Utah, but St. George-based GRO Races announced a new mountain bike race called the “Tinker Classic” which will be held in Beatty, Nevada, just 90 north of Las Vegas. GRO Productions puts on the 25 Hours in Frog Hollow and True Grit Epic in Hurricane and they are excited to announce their newest race.
According to a statement, mountain biking legend and longtime Cannondale professional racer, David “Tinker” Jaurez, is putting on this inaugural race on May 6th, 2017.
Gro Races says they have partnered with New Age Athlete whom Tinker coaches with), and the Spicer Ranch to “activate the nostalgia of classic mountain bike racing, complete with good vibrations only Tinker can inspire.”
The Tinker Classic celebrates Tinker’s successful history as a professional BMX racer starting in the ‘70’s, turned professional mountain biker when that world exploded into an excited frenzy over the hottest new cycling discipline of the era. He has timelessly raced through the decades, and continues racing to this day as the longest racing professional mountain biking icon out there! Tinker’s prolific winning career includes seven National Championship titles as well as representing the U.S.A. twice in the Olympics. Tinker was inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame in 2001 and the BMX Hall of Fame in 1993.
The wealth of experience and knowledge Tinker holds is beyond fathomable. He knows what it takes to start from humble beginnings, and tenaciously pedal his way to live out his wildest dreams of racing bicycles as his grown-up job. He is kind, passionate and wins the hearts of everyone he meets. His sharp focus and discipline are nearly unmatched. He wants to ensure you have the opportunity to meet and ride with him in person.
Tinker says it best, “It has been my wish for literally decades to create an event in the “classic ” style of mountain biking, with long climbs, and throttling straight-ways, in an unmatched peaceful landscape. God bless each of you for helping me live my dreams and manifest this dream of my own race. I do this to honor my fans. My wish is you will all join me to celebrate cycling, along with my life’s work of inspiring happiness and health through cycling!”
Plan to join Tinker for the mountain bike race featuring 60 and 100-kilometer distance options. Stay for the entire family friendly weekend in Beatty, or camp onsite at generous host, Dave Spicer’s amazing desert Ranch.
