Want to race? Want to race at Alta? You won’t find a better reason to race than at the 38th annual Curt and Adam Naisbitt Memorial Groundhog Day Race.
This groundhog, “funhog” race happens on Friday, February 2nd at Alta’s Sunnyside Race Arena. Both men and women Telemark and Alpine categories will be available to sign up for. Entry cost is $25. Register at the top of the Collins lift. You must be 25 years or older to participate.
So what’s the race about? A good cause, of course. Proceeds will benefit the Curt and Adam Naisbitt Living Trust. Along with the race itself, there will be an after party, awards for top finishers, and a huge gear raffle to raise even more money.
If you don’t know who Adam Naisbitt is, then you should. Adam was a beloved Alta ski patroller who lost his life last year. From his obituary:
“Adam spent his childhood surrounded by the mountains and lakes of Montana and developed a deep love of nature. Adam was an accomplished kayaker, climber and skier. He worked at UDOT as an avalanche forecaster in Little Cottonwood Canyon and ski patrol at Alta where he did avalanche control. Adam helped raise and train Fitzroy, one of Alta’s avalanche dogs. Fitz meant the world to him. When he wasn’t keeping Utah’s mountains safe from avalanches, Adam spent summers working for the Forest Service, climbing in Alaska and summiting Denali.
Adam graduated from the University of Utah with a master’s degree in Geographic Information Science. Adam navigated the world with kindness, and had a gift for helping others find their way. He was a deep thinker, an artist and a good friend who could always be counted on to show up for someone in need.”
His father, Curt Naisbitt, lost his life in 2015. He too was a lover of the outdoors.
Help keep Adam and Curt’s memories alive and raise money for a good cause. Sign up to race or get more information from ski patrol at the top of Collins.
