Alterra Mountain Company bought Solitude Mountain Resort in early August. Since then, the big question was, would Solitude offer unlimited ski days on the Ikon Pass? Well the answer came on Monday, that indeed, Solitude will have unlimited skiing – the only Utah resort that does on the Ikon Pass.
The other surprising news is that Solitude’s neighbor, Brighton Resort, has also joined the Ikon Pass. The pass will offer 7 days of skiing and riding at Brighton with no blackout dates, or 5 days with 10 blackout dates with the Ikon Base pass.
“Brighton Resort is excited to be included in the Ikon Pass and honored to be part of such a premier group of destinations. We look forward to providing an exceptional experience for Ikon Pass holders visiting the Wasatch Range,” said Randy Doyle, President & General Manager, Brighton Resort.
“The Ikon Pass is expanding, and with the addition of Solitude Mountain Resort and Brighton Resort, we are excited to offer unparalleled access to Utah, a state known around the world for its snow quality, variety of terrain, and accessibility,” said Erik Forsell, Chief Marketing Officer of Alterra Mountain Company. ”We are nearly 70 days away from opening day in North America and are thrilled to jump start the ski and snowboard season by adding more premier Ikon Pass destinations for winter 2018/2019.”
In addition, Ikon Pass holders will get additional Utah days at Deer Valley, Alta and Snowbird. It’s safe to say that Ikon now rules the Central Wasatch offering nearly 10,000 acres of terrain over five resorts.
The Ikon Pass will set you back $999, or $699 for the base pass. If you don’t plan on traveling with your family, you can also purchase a Solitude Youth Pass for just $199. The Youth Pass offers unlimited skiing and no blackout dates at Solitude for children ages 5-12. The price goes up to $359 for ages 13-17.
With Solitude offering unlimited access, plus the rest of the Cottonwood Canyon resorts (and Deer Valley) adding additional days, Alterra is now stiff competition to Vail’s Epic Pass for Utah locals. Personally, with the addition of Solitude and Brighton, I think the Ikon Pass is a no brainer at this point.
