Bike jerseys these days are like rock climbing clothes of the ’90s. Skin tight, multi-colored monstrosities are the fashion and hopefully, 20 years from now, we’ll be smacking ourselves in the face for poor style judgement. Until then, it will remain difficult to find a jersey that doesn’t make you look like a circus clown. Thankfully, Novara offers the Gravitron Bike Jersey for plain guys like me.
The Novara Gravitron Jersey comes in two colors. Green and brown. Simple. Plus, I don’t look like I stepped out of an exploding paint factory when I wear it. Besides the nice colors, the Gravitron Jersey features everything else you would expect.
Polyester fabric wicks sweat away from the body and dries fast, mesh underarms and back panels let moisture evaporate, a full front zipper makes it easy to put on and off and three rear pockets let you store food and small gear while riding without a pack. There’s also a zippered pocket for ID and cash storage and the jersey material has a UPF 25 rating to protect from the sun.
I wore the Novara Gravitron Jersey on several rides so far, from Dry Creek and the Bobsled in the Salt Lake City foothills, to a four-day mountain bike trip on the White Rim Trail in Canyonlands. Working up a sweat was no problem as the Gravitron is easily the most breathable jersey I’ve worn. It’s best for rides on warm days though, because cool days felt like riding without a shirt on as the mesh fabric let cold breezes blow against the skin.
The fit is slim without much extra room, but a size medium fit me perfect (I’m 5’10” and 150 pounds.) Overall, the Novara Gravitron Bike Jersey is everything I was looking for to wear on the mountain bike this summer. Its a simple, no frills piece of clothing that performs well from the northern Utah singletrack to the desert roads in the south.
