Summer in the Wasatch mean the powder snow is replaced with fields of wildflowers. In celebration of this explosion of color, the Cottonwood Canyons ski resorts host the Wasatch Wildflower Festival every year. The 2010 event takes place on July 16th through the 18th, and will give everyone interested a chance to learn about the variety, diversity and life of these alpine gems.
The Wasatch Wildflower Festival’s main attraction is the guided walks through the mountain landscape as trained volunteers teach participants flower identification, ecology, and how the delicate plants can be cared for a preserved.
Of course there’s more to the festival than looking at and taking pictures of flowers. There are also walks for kids, Tram rides at Snowbird, and live music. Hikes are divided into difficulty categories, from easy strolls to strenuous marches up ski resorts, so anyone can take part and enjoy.
