Coffee is available in all forms; ground, instant and various flavors. But sometimes it’s the packaging that wins. Nature’s Coffee Kettle comes in a bag that looks like the dehydrated backpacking meals. On my first non-car camping trip, it won a spot in my overstuffed pack.
When I awoke to a chilly Uinta Mountain morning, I wanted my coffee ASAP. To make the coffee, you rip off the top of the bag, add four cups of boiling water to the filter on the top, and then it should be ready after a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, our JetBoil can only boil 2 cups of water at a time. This meant it took a bit longer to make the coffee. When we poured the coffee it looked light in color so we resifted through the coffee filter one more time and repoured it.
My husband and I found the coffee to be suprisingly good for an “instant” coffee. Making it in the pouch was much easier than using a percolator or french press, which meant cleanup was NONE. The product is small, lightweight, easy to pack, and disposable. If you’re a hunter or backpacker in need of something quick, tasty, and not messy, it’s perfect.
The downside to the product is that it’s a lot of packaging for a one time use only product. I did hear from the developer of the company that they are working at making a refill for the bag so it doesn’t have to be used once and then be thrown away.
Nature’s Coffee Kettle makes a variety of coffee flavors, tea, hot cocoa, and tomato soup. It can be found at stores like Cabela’s, Sportmans Warehouse and online at Campsaver.com or www.naturescoffeekettle.com
