Imagine a job that lasts only four months, pays $40,000 a year, allows you to live in a posh hotel, and all you have to do is ski and/or snowboard every day and blog about it. In case you haven’t heard, this job opening actually exists at The Canyons and it’s appropriately called, “The Ultimate Mountain Gig.”
But time is running out if you are thinking about applying. November 25th is the deadline to submit your resume. But the resume The Canyons is looking for isn’t a paper outlining work experience and education. What The Canyons wants to know is this: how do you mountain?
Here’s how it works. Send The Canyons a 2-minute video detailing how you mountain. You can interpret that however you want as that’s kind of the point, however according to The Canyons, to mountain is a “verb that encompasses both the physical and emotional pursuit; also deriving from a mountain’s symbolism as a goal or challenge.” With that idea in mind, shoot your video showing your own unique way “to mountain.”
In addition to the video submission, you must submit a writing sample to prove you know how since the main responsibility will be to blog about your experiences. Go ahead and send in that boring paper resume too. There’s a whole list of requirements that are better read over at the How Do You Mountain website. But overall, you need to be pretty damn enthusiastic about the chance to live at The Canyons and get paid to ski or snowboard. If you’re lucky enough to be hired, here’s what you get:
- A season pass to The Canyons
- Suite lodging at the Waldorf Astoria
- $40,000 salary for just 4 months of work (skiing and blogging)
- Use of a still camera, video camera and laptop computer
- Brand new ski or snowboard gear
- Canyons Club access
- Airfare to and from The Canyons
- Spa treatments
- Ski school lessons and avalanche training clinics
- First tracks and heli-skiing access
- VIP credentials for all Canyons events.
Here’s a breakdown of the job responsibilities from The Canyons website:
- Blog about your activities at least 4 times per week with photos and video
- Attend Canyons events
- Participate in monthly Canyons activities
- Shadow shifts with various departments: Ski Patrol, Food and Beverage, Lift Operations, etc.
Seriously? That’s all? For 40 grand? If you don’t apply for this job, then you’re either lazy, married, don’t know how to ski, or a combination of the three. But the job opening closes on Thursday, November 25th, so break out that video camera and get shooting.
