After yet another epic storm pounded Utah, ski conditions are unbelievably good for this early in the season. The latest round of storms dropped over two feet in some Wasatch Mountain locations, allowing a few resorts to open weeks earlier than anticipated. And in the case of Deer Valley, it’s no soft opening. On Saturday, December 4th, Deer Valley will start the season with 20 out of 21 chairlifts operating.
With so much terrain available on Deer Valley’s first day, it’ll be hard to break away for some celebrity stargazing. The annual Deer Valley Celebrity SkiFest will also be taking place on Saturday on the Birdseye run at Silver Lake. Olympic athletes, along with television and film actors, will hit the gates and race to benefit the Waterkeeper Alliance.
This season is also Deer Valley’s 30th anniversary, and to celebrate, they will be selling lift tickets for only $30! This deal happens from December 6th through the 8th only, so be sure to take advantage of this special rate while it lasts.
Joining Deer Valley in opening this weekend are Beaver Mountain (December 3rd) and Sundance (December 4th.) Sundance plans on opening their front mountain up to the Ray’s Lift Midway stop and will add more terrain as soon as conditions permit.
After this weekend, only two resorts remain – The Canyons, which pushed their opening date back to December 10th (much to the anger of season pass holders) and Eagle Point, which is planning celebrating their grand opening on December 15th, giving Southern Utah skiers another skiing option in the Tushar Mountains above Beaver.
