Art and outdoor recreation is an unusual combination, but an upcoming event aims to bring the two together and raise money for the Access Fund. The 4th annual Hammers Inc. Art Festival and gallery stroll will bring Utah artists and local rock climbers together to raise awareness and money for conservation.
This year the funds raised will go to the Access Fund, a national advocacy organization that keeps U.S. climbing areas open and conserves the climbing environment while maintaining access to our public and sometime private lands for “human powered recreation.”
The art festival and gallery stroll will take place on December 3rd from 5pm to 10pm on the northwest corner of 100 South and Main Street in downtown Salt Lake City.
This year’s event is focused on bringing the outdoor community together by celebrating the mountains and the visual expressions and creativity our snow-covered peaks inspire. Thanks to the help of Petzl America and the Access Fund, the art festival will feature local photographers, painters, sculptors and videographers who will exhibit their work in galleries around Salt Lake.
Featured artists include: Adam Barker, Garrett Smith, Kristin Marine, Pi & Sarah Mannion, and Kandvce Groesbeck.
In addition, the Hammers Inc. Art festival and gallery stroll will highlight All Access, a compilation of rock climbing films developed by Petzl and various filmmakers. All sales of the All Access DVD will be donated to the Access Fund. There are a total of 10 original climbing films on the DVD including:
Catching Reality – Emil Sergel
Hey Presto – Paul Diffley, Hot Aches Productions
Infinity Lane – TLC Productions
Medeoz – Guillaume Broust
PURE: Sonoma County with Kevin Jorgeson – Chuck Fryberger
Steph Davis – Sender Films
Steve McClure, Hubble – Ben Pritchard
Weeks Before Winter, featuring Chris Sharma – Mike Call
