Grab your camera and head for the mountains with your skiing buddies, because the annual Ski Salt Lake Shootout registration has begun for 2011, and this year the competition is also open to local professional ski photographers and pro athletes (both skiers and snowboarders.) The 2011 Ski Salt Lake Shootout takes place February 7-12, and the online registration deadline is Friday, January 7.
The registration competition will be fierce as only eight professional ski photographers will be chosen to shoot it out with each other in the hope of winning cash prizes. Photogs and athletes will spend four days at Wasatch Mountain ski resorts including Alta, Snowbird, Solitude and Brighton in an attempt to not only capture incredible ski photos, but to also capture the essence of each resort and their unique personalities.
The addition of snowboarders is new to this year’s competition, but organizers say that it will be a good thing. “We have so many talented local photographers and such a huge snowboard presence in the Cottonwood Canyons that we couldn’t resist any longer,” said Laura Barnes, Tourism Communications Manager for Visit Salt Lake. “Obviously the snowboarders will only participate at Snowbird, Brighton and Solitude, but Alta couldn’t be more supportive of the decision to bring them into the mix to help showcase all that Ski Salt Lake represents.”
As an added bonus for shooting last year’s Best of Show image, photographer Kevin Winzeler is invited back to defend his title.
