Ogden is the place to be at the end of January when WinterFest 2011 takes over the city’s Historic 25th Street. This year’s event takes place on January 28th and 29th, and as in year’s past, snow will be trucked in from the mountains to create a bona-fide snowpack on the pavement for all manner of winter tomfoolery.
It seems Ogden knows how to celebrate the winter season. Maybe it’s because of all the outdoor recreation campanies that have relocated to O-town, or maybe the residents just know how to party in the cold. Either way, the events we can look forward to range from silly to… well, silly.
Where else can you try skiing behind a horse? How about jumping into an ice cold pool? Playing football in frozen mud? Of course there are more mundane activities like cross country skiing, snowshoeing or simply watching the snowmobile races on the afore-mentioned trucked in snow.
Here’s a list of events you can expect to see or participate in at this year’s WinterFest:
- Toboggan Parade
- Skijoring
- Human Dog Sled Races
- Polar Bear Swim
- Snowmobile Street Races
- Scoop Shovel Races
- Snowboarding and Skiing Rail-Jam
- 5K Run/Walk
- Doggie Costume Contest
- Flag Football Contests
- Cross Country Skiing Races
- Ski-Bike Races
- Live Music
- And many more . . .
There will also be tons of fun stuff for the kiddos to do, like sledding down 25th Street, snow painting, skijoring, scoop shovel racing, snoeshowing and more.
Registration is currently open for the Toboggan Parade. For more information about this event or to become a WinterFest 2011 sponsor, please call Ogden City Public Services at (801) 629-8337. You can also find more info at the Ogden WinterFest website.
