It’s a collar, it’s a leash, it’s a Supercollar. New this year at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market was the Supercollar team with their one of a kind dog collar. To show off the collar, the team borrowed a dog from No More Homeless Pets, and had a volunteer walk him around the show (hopefully he found a forever home with one of the attendees.)
Supercollar was designed to make life easier because your dog’s leash is always on. Supercollar is designed for medium to large dogs, up to 90 pounds. The steel coated cables that make up the retractable lead have a combined break strength of 200 pounds. A behaviorist recommended the lead length be 3 feet, which provides more control over the dog, even if he or she is a serious tugger.
A stainless steel toggle locks the rubber lead handle into place when your dog is relaxing. When you want your dog on leash, twist the toggle and grab the handle. This is a perfect if you want to head to the off-leash dog park and don’t want to hold onto the leash while your dog plays.
Supercollar has partnered with Guide Dogs for the Blind, launched in March 2010 on the Home Shopping Network, featured on the CBS Early Show, and was named Best Pet Product of 2010 by Dog News Daily. Coming soon will be the superharness. Until then, the owners say their goal is to have a supercollar on every dog, that way dogs are always safe.
