The weather is gorgeous and it’s time to get out and have fun in downtown Salt Lake City at the Utah Arts Festival. This is the 35th Anniversary of the show, and it gets bigger and better every year. If you’re heading downtown, ditch the car and grab the bike.
The eARTH Team and Bike Valet are trying to help the Festival reduce its impact on the environment. The Utah Arts Festival has bought carbon offsets through Rocky Mountain Power’s Blue Sky Program to reduce waste and air emissions. This event is one of a few in the country to start a recycling program. The Festival recycles plastic bottles and cups, aluminum cans, glass, cardboard, food scraps and vegetable oil.
Last year over 1,500 people took advantage of the FREE Bike Valet. People who ride their bike to the event and park in the Blue Sky Bike Lot get a $2 discount off the price of regular admission. It’s located on 400 South next to the City County Building (mid-block between State Street and 200 East.) And it’s safer than trying to lock your bike to gates or trees outside the Festival. The Salt Lake Bike Collective checks your bike in and out of the lot.
If that’s not a good enough reason to attend, Uinta Brewing Company has created a special beer just for the Festival, the Arts Fest Amber Ale. Uinta Cutthroat and Solstice will also be available at the craft beer locations. Uinta’s Crooked Line series will be paired with gourmet food at the Epicuriosity booth.
The 2011 Utah Arts Festival runs through Sunday Jun 26 on Library Square, 400 South and 200 East in downtown Salt Lake City.
Adult admission is $10 at the gate, $7 in advance. Children 12 and under are free. Seniors 65 and above are $5.
