The 3rd annual Mount Ogden 50/100k mountain bike endurance race is coming up fast. The 2011 event takes place on August 27 at Snowbasin Resort.
A few changes have been made this year, most notably the deletion of the team relay 100k. Now anyone who wants to grind their pedals all day through the singletrack at Snowbasin will have only two options – 50k solo or 100k solo. The race course consists of two 25k loops for the 50K and two 50k loops for the 100k. Also new this year is an addition to the 100k course that loops on the Sardine Peak Trail. All races will start at the base of Snowbasin Resort.
Endurance mountain biking, however, isn’t the only thing happening at the resort that day. There’s also a festival and mountain bike expo that riders and non-riders alike can hang out at and enjoy. Activities planned include a barbecue, beer, bike demos, sponsor and vendor tents, folks selling arts and crafts, a climbing wall and bike races for the kids, obstacle course, and live music by Royal Bliss.
Packet pickup will happen at the Ogden Marriott on Friday, August 26th from 5:00pm – 8:00pm. There will also be light meal and entertainment provided for the racers.
Again, the Mt. Odgen 50k/100k takes place on Saturday, August 27, 2010 at 7:00 a.m. Riders must check in between 5:30 and 6:30 a.m. before the race briefing at Earls Lodge. Then the race begins with the 100k participants taking off at 7. The rest of the race gets underway with the 50k at 7:30 in staggered starts. Then the party begins at 10 a.m. when the expo and festival kicks off at the finish line.
Because of the early start, racers and their support crews can camp in the parking lot at Snowbasin for free. There will also be showers for all racers to use post-race. Biggest bonus: a prize raffle for all racers with sweet swag.
Hopefully this year will have better weather than the rainy, muddy mess that caused havoc for the racers on their first laps. Heavy rain pounded the course the night before, leaving the singletrack a mucky swamp. On the treacherous first lap, every racer, from the pros to the amateurs, had to stop and clean mud from their forks just to be able to move… and those were the lucky ones.
