If you’re a mountain biker in Utah, then you’ve probably ridden the Grandaddy of singletrack in Northern Utah – the Wasatch Crest Trail. In fact, you’ve probably ridden it various way dozens and dozens of times. But I’ll bet you’ve never ridden “The Crest” on a cruiser bike. Well, you’ll have your chance at the 1st annual Crest on Cruisers event.
Crest on Cruisers is a charity ride to benefit the Charlie Myers scholarship fund at the National Ability Center in Park City.
Charlie is a small boy who need to be treated with hippotherapy to treat Charlie a mild case of Cerebral Palsy. Hippotherapy is where children with neuromuscular difficulty ride horses to encourage stability, core strength, balance, posture, muscle tone, and emotional development.
So, how exactly does risking your life and limb by riding the Wasatch Crest on Cruiser help a boy in need? Well, the cost to ride is $10 minimum, but everyone who participates is encouraged to donate more to help Charlie. You can also sponsor a rider who is brave enough to attempt this crazy stunt. In addition, an additional $10 bonus will be added if your sponsored rider pukes on Puke Hill. Righteous!
Crest on Cruisers happens on Sunday, September 11th. Riders will meet at the Canyons Resort at 9:30 a.m. by the cabriolet and carpool to the S-curve below Guardsman Pass. From there, cruiser pedalers will ride the 2-mile incline to the top of the Wasatch Crest via the infamous Puke Hill.
Of course, despite the obvious difficulty of riding a cruiser bike up Puke Hill, the whole shindig is meant to raise money and have an excuse to party. Drinks, pictures, costumes and merriment will be the scene at the top. Walk, push, crawl, or actually attempt to ride your cruiser to the top, encouraged by the cheers and jeers of your friends.
In order to participate, you’ll need your $10 donation, and a cruiser bike. Of course costumes are highly encouraged.
