More sad news coming out of the Utah outdoor community as a BASE jumper has died after an accident in Rock Canyon when the victim’s chute failed to deploy. The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Holly Brittsan, a University of Utah student from Idaho.
Brittsan was BASE jumping off a prow of rock on the north side of Rock Canyon with her boyfriend. The couple were performing the jumps as part of a school project. After the jump, Brittsan’s chute did not deploy properly and she hit the ground after falling 150 feet. Police say she died at the scene at 4:40 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Witnesses say Brittsan’s chute did deploy, but not in time to save her from landing hard on the ground. Her friends say she was not a novice BASE jumper.
