Salt Lake City based DPS Skis has opened a new ski shop and demo center in Sugar House, right next door to the company’s headquarters. On Friday, November 18, the new shop, which they’re calling the DPS Ski Salon, officially opened to the public with a launch party where they showed off the new digs, as well as displayed the DPS ski line, including the new Wailer 99 and Nina 99 skis.
The DPS Ski Salon is located in the Sugar House neighborhood of Salt Lake City, at 1549 South, 1100 East, just off of Interstate 80. The The Salon is decked out like an art gallery for skis, where skiers can demo all current DPS ski models available. In addition, the Salon plans to be a gathering place for local skiers who want to hang out during community events, pick up a demo pair of DPS skis, or bring in their current setup for a tune and wax. The Salon will also offer ski, binding, and accessory sales, and will even be slinging espresso.
Although DPS has been in Salt Lake City for over a year now, they felt it was time to reach out to the community and open their doors to skiers interested in trying out their skis.
“People kept coming by asking to demo or check out skis, so it just seemed like a really cool progression to open a little showroom/shop here that would reflect the brand and be a good community way for people to come check out skis and get a taste of the culture that built the brand,” said DPS Founder, Stephan Drake. “We want it to be a friendly neighborhood-type place where skiers can come in and watch movies, shoot the breeze, and have an espresso.”
The DPS Ski Salon also plans to become a community gathering place for Wasatch skiers by hosting regular events, including photography exhibitions, book signings, slideshows, film screenings, and social gatherings.
Along with the new shop, the launch party also included a preview of the new Wailer 99 and Nina 99 skis. Both skis were on display like works of art along the blank walls where people could pick them up and feel how light weight carbon skis can be.
“This ski, in terms of all the skis we’ve released, has gone through more prototyping, more testing, more iterations than anything we’ve ever done. We just really wanted to nail it and we’re pretty happy with the result right now,” Drake said.
The DPS Salon will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and can be reached at 801.953.1448. For more information, and a calendar of events, visit http://blog.dpsskis.com/salon/
