The Utah Avalanche Center is always in need of donations from the backcountry community to “keep you on top,” and they’ve come up with a lot of creative ways to collect the fundage they require to give us the daily avalanche forecast we rely on. Right now, you can bid on several outdoor gear items on eBay, and all proceeds will go to benefit the UAC.
Currently on the auction block is a BCA Float 18 avalanche pack, a pair of Black Diamond Drift skis with custom UAC topsheet, a pair of Surface Live Life skis, women’s Scarpa Diva AT boots, men’s Outdoor Research Credo softshell jacket, and a women’s Outdoor Research Cirque softshell jacket. All items in the auction are new (except the boots) and are something that will round out any backcountry skiers or splitboarder’s gear closet.
Last year, the Utah Avalanche Center held a similar eBay auction with a pair of Black Diamond Drift skis featuring custom UAC graphics. Turns out I won those skis after placing my bid. So now I tour the Wasatch on really awesome looking, custom skis, and I also feel good about my purchase knowing that my money went right into the coffers of the Utah Avalanche Center. You can get that same feeling too, and walk away with a sweet piece of backcountry gear by also placing a bid in this year’s eBay auction.
All the items that you can bid on are starting out way below retail, so it never hurts to throw up your virtual auction paddle and try to score a deal. Or, you can place a bid in hopes that it drives up the price so the UAC gets even more money. Either way, it’s fun and you might even win, whether you meant to or not!
To see the outdoor gear that is up for auction, head over to eBay and search for “Utah Avalanche Center.” You’ll land right on the auction site where you can see pictures of the gear, read descriptions, and place your bid to help the Utah Avalanche Center in their continuing mission to provide the current and reliable avalanche forecasts we all rely on.
Jared – thanks for once again helping us spread the word!
