Think it’s possible to ski all 14 of Utah’s resorts in one day? Well Ski Utah and a group of local skiers are going to find out. On Thursday, March 15, these crazy kids will rise way before the sun at Brian Head, then work their way north to end the day at Beaver Mountain, in the hopes of becoming the first in history to accomplish the feat.
The previous record was set on January 13, 2009, when Ski Utah successfully skied 13 Utah ski resorts in a single day. Since then, Eagle Point opened near Beaver, creating Utah’s 14th ski resort. Now a new record will be attempted. According to Ski Utah, this mission will demonstrate, “the unparalleled accessibility of Utah’s 14 ski and snowboard resorts.”
It’s not all fun and games though. This record-breaking attempt will also be a fundraiser to benefit the Huntsman Cancer Institute, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and The National Ability Center. Canyon Transportation is also donating their services to make sure the skiers get to the resorts and stay on schedule.
If you’d like to ride along online, you can follow the mission’s progress in real-time by visiting the Ski Utah Yeti’s blog posts located at: http://www.skiutah.com/winter/blog/authors/yeti
Looking at the schedule below, I don’t envy these guys, because in order to ski all 14 resorts in a 24-hour period, they have to begin at 2:30 a.m. and won’t be finished until 8 p.m. That’s a tall order, and can only happen if nothing goes wrong. They better check the van’s tire pressure and oil before heading out!
