The big story from Oboz Footwear at the Outdoor Retailer 2012 Summer Market is the upcoming launch of their new Granite Peak outsole and midsole package. Their tagline for these new soles is “True to the Trail.” They feature large surface lugs, perimeter lugs that bite down like teeth, dual-density EVA midsole, and a 3/4 length TPU combination shank and chassis that spans the arch, heel and ball of the foot for structure and stability. That’s the company line – I say they just look damn rockin’!
There are some new kicks that have the honor of wearing these new soles, including the Luna – a women’s specific shoe meant for day hiking on the trail. Features include a highly breathable, perforated synthetic mesh upper, stitch-free welded microfiber overlays that anchor the laces, and a supportive, triple-density BFIT Deluxe Insole.
Men will soon get to wear the Traverse Low, a hiking shoe similar to the Luna that has many of the same features, as well as molded heel counters that support and protect the heel while keeping the foot in the heel pocket.
Also new is the Traverse Mid BDRY, a supportive, high-topped light hiker that is waterproof and breathable courtesy of Oboz’s proprietary BDRY membrane. A mesh upper balances out the breathability. Also cool is a lacing system that has a webbing cinch strap to help keep the heel in place. The Traverse Mid BDRY also comes with the Deluxe BFIT Insole.
Oboz is generally regarded as a manufacturer of burly backpacking boots, plus leather low and mid cut hiking shoes and boots, but these new styles launch them into the realm of stylish, light and athletic hikers that have the same performance features. All the new Granite Peak line of shoes will be available Spring of 2013.
