The elusive search for powder – it can be easy depending on where you live, and we here in Utah are lucky enough to live in the Grand Central Station of the powder train (sometimes.) But during those dry spells, one must travel to get the freshie goods. Enter the Salomon Powfinder, a smartphone weather app that lets you know where the snow if falling at top ski resorts all over the world.
The Salomon Powfinder has been available for a while now, but recently got an upgrade to make this “snow radar” application more user-friendly. Salomon says they rebuilt the app from the ground up and is available for download from iTunes and Google Play.
So what does one get when the Salomon Powfinder is downloaded? Features include:
· User generated weather reports
· Forecast with indications where to go (Utah, Colorado, British Columbia, Europe)
· Snowmaps to illustrate the weather movements (map layer)
· Add your favorite freeride resorts
· Be the first one to watch Salomon Freeski TV
You’ll also have the ability to create your own forecasts and share it with other users. Take a picture, measure the depth of new snow, and share it with other skiers and snowboarders.
Actually, maybe you won’t want to use that feature, lest the masses converge on your stash and track it up.
You can download the Salomon Powfinder from iTunes at http://itunes.apple.com/app/salomon-powfinder/id399386285?mt=8
Or at Google play at http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wepowder.android.Salomon
Oh yea, and it’s free. Happy Powfinding!
