Splitboarders unite! Get your boards waxed, and stretch your swag hands because the 2013 Wasatch Splitfest is happening on February 6th-10th right here in Salt Lake City, which is the birthplace of the splitboard movement. The Wasatch Splitfest is a celebration of the splitboarding community in Utah, and will be full of gear demos, presentations by avalanche forecasters and splitboard pioneers, and backcounty tours throughout the Wasatch Mountains that will be chock full of safety training, terrain management, and avalanche awareness.
One night you won’t want to miss is the the main presentation and raffle happening on Friday, February 8th. “Splitboarding luminaries” from the Pacific Northwest, Colorado, and Utah will enlighten everyone with their stories and good humor, which will be followed by a huge raffle of gear, which will include Quintic 28 backpacks, Epsilon SV Hoody jackets, and Gamma SK pants from Arc’teryx, First Ascent “Downlight Sweater” jackets, Spark R&D bindings, a Venture Storm 166 splitboard, and a ton of stuff from Voile, including an Artisan 166 splitboard. Money earned from the raffle will go to support the Utah Avalanche Forecast Center.
Festival organizers want to stress that this will be for everybody, from the expert to the “curious wannabes.” No need to feel intimidated, because this will be so coom-bi-ya you’ll want to go hug a tree or something. Basically, it’s going to be a chill, low-key type of event.
