Times are a-changing for skiers in Northern Utah. With the official opening of Cherry Peak north of Logan this year, as well as the many upgrades happening at Powder Mountain, Wolf Mountain, the tiny resort in Eden, is also getting a new name and a huge facelift. In January, it was announced that an investment group bought the resort, and they’ve just recently revealed that starting this year, Wolf Mountain will now be called Nordic Valley, a throwback to the ski area’s original name. In addition, expansion plans were unveiled, which will double the resort’s size with new intermediate and expert runs.
According to the Standard Examiner, some of the new runs will be open this season – but only by snowcat and for an additional charge. But it will give skiers and snowboarders a taste of what’s to come. All of the current expansion is on private land, but the resort’s owners have a 10-year vision that will push the ski area boundary up to the top of the Skyline ridge, which would turn the resort into a 2,000-acre, 3,000-vertical foot, world class destination.
Other plans in the works are a gondola, several new lifts, new base facilities, including condominiums, zip lines, mountain coasters and a huge network of mountain bike trails that will turn the place into a 4-season resort.
Currently, Nordic Valley offers 500 acres and is considered a family-friendly resort with a popular ski school. It is perhaps best known for its night skiing program. Season passes for the 2014/15 ski season are $355 for adults, and $225 for students. Backcountry skiers can also purchase a Randonee Pass for $119, which will give them access without the use of lifts.
