The Provo Brothers are at it again. These guys have been exploring the Uinta Mountain backcountry for years, and have released edits of their adventures killer enough to make me want to throw down thousands of dollars for a snowmobile so I can access these peaks in the winter months. Well, they’ve gone and descended one of the gnarliest mountains along the Mirror Lake Highway from the summit – Hayden Peak – and have the video to prove it.
From afar and up close, Hayden Peak looks unskiable from the top. Massive cliffs guard her proud crown in every direction. I’ve skied her slopes in the spring, mainly between Hayden and Agassiz, and always wrote off the summit as impossible to consider for a descent. Leave it up to the Provo Brothers to figure out a way to do it by linking two nasty couloirs to the top, then skiing and snowboarding back down them, with the help of ice tools. It looks heinous, scary and made my palms sweat just watching it. It might even be a first descent. Check it out:
