The Black Diamond Rock Project Tour is coming to Salt Lake this weekend, April 10-12. The Rock Project Tour is a “first of its kind,” climbing, advocacy, and education event. The project is in partnership with the Access Fund, Momentum Indoor Climbing, REI, and the Salt Lake Climbers Alliance.
Attendees of the Rock Project Tour get to participate in climbing clinics with pro athletes and guides, enjoy presentations, get swag bags full of gear and goodies, and party down at Momentum in Sandy with an SLCA Member Drive, Pro Am Games, king swing, crate stacking, food, beer, and more. In addition, there will be a graffiti and trash removal project scheduled in Little Cottonwood Canyon on Sunday, April 12. Plus, if you purchase a ticket, you automatically get an annual SLCA/Access Fund Membership or renewal of your current membership.
The Rock Project Tour is all part of the Access Fund’s mission to keep our outdoor rock climbing areas open and protected. According to the Access Fun, they do this by working to engage the climbing community and activate positive social norms, backed by consistent educational content, messaging, and programming that is specific to regional access issues and environmental concerns. They say that ultimately, climbers that are stewards and responsible users of outdoor climbing resources promote a positive identity for themselves and climbers as a whole, mitigating threats to access. ROCK Project is at the center of this movement.
To achieve this, climbers will be presented with “The Pact.” this is a promise or covenant between climbers to practice a set of responsible outdoor ethics that protect climbing access. The Pact outlines 10 responsible outdoor behaviors and asks all climbers to commit to each other—as a tribe—to practicing these behaviors in order to protect climbing access.
