The 2015 Outdoor Retailer Summer market is coming to Salt Lake City in a few weeks, and the Salt Palace Convention Center will be all about gear, gear, gear. But one company will be there on a different mission: earthquake relief for Nepal. Sherpa Adventure Gear will host a fundraiser to help in their efforts to assist victims of the company’s home country. The event will be a “thank you” style reception.
If you are able to attend Outdoor Retailer, the fundraiser takes place on Thursday, August 6th from 4-6 p.m. at booth 3000. There will be snacks and refreshments along with stories and images of the relief work that Sherpa Adventure Gear has sponsored. In addition, T-shirts will be sold for $20 to raise funds that will benefit the Nepal earthquake effort.
According to a press release, the funding, support and supplies donated to Sherpa Adventure Gear’s relief effort so far has “warmed hearts and helps hundreds of people start the recovery process.” Individuals, groups, suppliers and industry partners all donated cash and supplies such as clothing, tarps, blankets, tents, water purifiers and other essentials. To date, the company’s appeal on Crowdrise (https://www.crowdrise.com/helpsherpashelpnepal) has raised over $152,000 to support aid in remote areas. 100% of the funds raised are dedicated to the rebuilding effort.
Company founder Tashi Sherpa–who was in Nepal during the earthquake and stayed for months—will be available to answer questions about recent and future relief efforts. He’ll share stories of heroic efforts by local people, visitors, Sherpa employees and others that are worth sharing.
So make Outdoor Retailer about more than just a geargasm, and become a part of the Nepal earthquake relief effort with Sherpa Adventure Gear.
