Mountain Khakis has long been among my favorite brands for casual pants and shirts. For 2016, there are a bunch of new styles coming out. I got to take a peek at them all at Outdoor Retailer Winter Market, and here’s a small sample of what’s to come:
ALPHA SWITCH JACKETS
The biggest story from Mountain Khakis is the introduction of Polartec Alpha insulation in their jackets, like the Alpha Switch jackets, quarter-zips and vests. Alpha Insulation was developed by Polartec for U.S. Special Forces, who required a more advanced insulation for their combat uniforms. It’s a temperature-regulating insulation that breathes during physical activity, but keeps you warm while stationary. Alpha Insulation is featured in the Alpha line – reversible outerwear that goes from a stretch softshell on one side to a nylon/poly ripstop in the other. Looks perfect as a mid-layer for backcountry skiing.
CAMBER 106 PANTS
The Camber 105 Pants are my favorite, and are usually the ones I grab from my closet almost every day. You can read more about them in my review here. Well, this fall you can now wear the Camber 106. It features a sleeker design with less “work pant” chap-style, double-layered fabric on the knees. Still, the Camber 106 will have the same performance stretch canvas and articulated knees that makes previous versions of the Camber so popular.
POWDER XVI SWEATER
Every self-respecting skier should have a ski sweater, vintage or otherwise. Mountain Khakis has you covered with the new Powder XVI Sweater. It’s a 100% washable merino wool that’s super cozy for hanging out by the fire at the lodge. Bonus: a portion of limited-edition sales goes to benefit Protect Our Winters (POW).
RENDEZVOUS MICRO CREW SHIRT
For base layers, the Rendezvous Micro Crew Shirt gets an update. Available in both men’s and women’s colors and cuts, this merino wool layer will now come in a 150g crew shirt with contrast stitching and mesh back panel for ventilation during aerobic activity.
Looks for this gear and more coming from Mountain Khakis in 2016.
