It’s so hot right now that you’re probably not thinking about ski season. But now is the time to mark your calendars as two events from the Utah Avalanche Center will be here before you know it.
Black Diamond Fall Fundraiser
One of the biggest UAC fundraising events of the year is the annual Black Diamond Fall Fundraiser. This is the 25th year of the event and it promises to be as big as previous parties. This year the event will be held on Thursday, September 13 from 6:00-10:00 PM. I suggest you attend for a great evening of food, drink, music, gear, celebration, and friends.
There will also be a silent auction using the GiveSmart platform so even if you cannot attend the fundraiser, you will still be able to bid (or set up automatic bidding) on items. All proceeds from this event help pay for the avalanche forecasting and education you need to make wise decisions in the backcountry.
Utah Snow and Avalanche Workshop
The 11th Annual Utah Snow and Avalanche Workshop will be held on Friday and Saturday, October 26 and 27. Last season it was held at Snowbird, but this year the event is moving back to the Mountain America Expo Center in Sandy. The Friday Pro-Only session will address workplace, resort, and infrastructure issues and the Open Session will be on Saturday.
Registration includes lunch and happy hour for all attendees. Intended to serve as continuing avalanche education, this is always a great opportunity for everyone to gain some advanced avalanche knowledge and brush up their skills and insight. There’s no better way to get into the backcountry and avalanche mindset. Tickets will be on sale in the coming months but plan ahead because they do sell out.
