We adults recreate in Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons all summer, but this month it’s time for the kids to play. There are two kid’s day events happening, the first at Alta and another at Silver Lake between Brighton and Solitude. Both will be fun for children of all ages in the best possible place to have a learning experience – the mountains.
Alta Kid’s Day
On Saturday, August 4th, Alta is hosting a Kid’s Day at the Albion Base Area. It’s a chance for the little one’s to learn about the plants, birds, water, and animals of Alta. Plus they get to make some art too. There will also be family walks, birding, an interactive watershed model, crafts and more. All activities are free and open to the public.
Alta Kid’s Day happens from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, go to https://www.facebook.com/events/1713982325346327/
Silver Lake Kid’s Day
Over in Big Cottonwood is Silver Lake Kid’s Day on Saturday, August 18th. Children can explore and have fun with free activities the whole family will enjoy. Arts and crafts, birding, scavenger hunts, and more will be on the activity menu.
No pre-registration is necessary. Just show up to the welcome booth to sign in and organizers will provide your family with all of the materials needed to participate. Kids have the opportunity to rove between stations and obtain stamps of completion in their activity books. Kids who visit all the stations will earn a mystery prize.
Silver Lake Kid’s Day is a joint effort between the Cottonwood Canyons Foundation, U.S. Forest Service, Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, the Brighton Institute, and other nonprofit partners. Any questions may be directed to the Community Engagement Coordinator at volunteer@cottonwoodcanyons.org.
