Have you ever hiked King’s Peak before? Now imagine hiking all 30 miles and 4-thousand feet of elevation gain to Utah’s highest point on prosthetic legs. It’s a damn impressive feat and Sid Smith accomplished it. The trip is documented in a new film titled, “3 Sons & a King.”
When Sid was a child, a genetic disease crippled his feet. We watched as his dad and brothers would go on hiking adventures without him, including trips to 13,527-foot Kings Peak. But in 2015, he had both feet amputated, replaced with state-of-the-art prosthetic legs. With new-found mobility, he set out to do something he’s never been able to achieve before – climb the tallest mountain in Utah.
Now a father himself, Sid brought his son Jake and his own dad to experience what he missed out on all his life. With a lot of guts and determination, Sid set out on the journey as three generations worked together to accomplish what once seemed impossible.
The video is inspiring, especially for anyone who has climbed Kings Peak before. The only thing missing from the film is how he got down from the summit. Because anyone who’s climbed that mountain knows that descending is the hardest part.
