The annual Curt and Adam Naisbitt Memorial Groundhog Day Race is becoming one of Alta’s most popular traditions. Both Curt and Adam were ski patrollers at Alta. Curt passed on in 2015, but more recently, his son, Adam, tragically died. The event shook Alta’s ski patrol and this race is one way to remember him.
This groundhog, “funhog” race happens on Saturday, February 2nd at Alta’s Sunnyside Race Arena. The race is all day lone, from 9:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both men and women Telemark and Alpine categories will be available to sign up for. Entry cost is $25. Register at the top of the Collins lift. You must be 21 years or older to participate.
Proceeds will benefit the Curt and Adam Naisbitt Living Trust. Along with the race itself, there will be an after party, awards for top finishers, and a huge gear raffle to raise even more money.
Proceeds from last year’s race funded a graffiti and trail clean-up at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. The memorial also focuses on promoting mental health care with the ski patrollers.
